I was talking with a friend this past week about my path to where I am now with my body.
She was asking me about some of the biggest changes between my mindset when I was struggling with weight loss compared to now, and I shared with her some of the things I used to say about my body. Her response?
OMG, what??!! I can’t even imagine you talking that way about your body. You are such an inspiration, Sheila! How did you ever go from thinking that way to who you are now?
The truth is, at the time I didn’t even think I had a problem. I thought, this is just how every one that is trying to lose weight thinks and the challenges they face… right?
Wrong. So wrong. Gosh, I didn’t even know how terrible I was treating myself and my body… even though I was so unhappy.
Even though I said terrible things about myself that I would never have in a million years said about a loved one. Even though I was consumed with thinking about food and my body all the time.
I just didn’t know what I didn't know.
But you know what? A lot of women struggle with disordered eating and they think their habits and behaviors are normal.
So I’ve put together a list of 24 unconventional signs that you may have an eating disorder. Many of these signs are things I myself have done. Others are signs that I’ve seen over and over again with my 1-on-1 clients.
Use this list to check in with yourself. We pick up these habits from others, our environment, and the media, and we don’t even realize it.
And I’m here to help you discover that “normal” shouldn’t involve feeling crappy about food, your body, and overall, life all the time.
